This is how we live the New Work concept at Eticor

What does New Work mean for each individual, for our team and for the entire company? With the goal of sustainably developing New Work in the company, we addressed precisely these questions in our workshop on March 22, 2022.

New Work

At Eticor, we have been organizing ourselves according to the principles of New Work for many years. This includes an agile and self-organized way of working and a corporate structure in which we work in teams without hierarchies. Our New Work culture is also characterized by flexible working time models, home office, regular communication training, strengths coaching and much more.

Every individual lives by our motto “Be better than yesterday” and this is reflected in the way the team works as well as in the development of our products and services.

#Sidefact: We are in the middle of developing the next generation of our compliance management software Eticor by launching Eticornxt. The Eticor supports our customers efficiently and globally in managing and controlling their compliance and helps in building digital and legally compliant organizations.

New Mindset

Self-reflection is another essential aspect of the New Work concept. Accordingly, before our workshop, we asked ourselves which New Work topics currently occupy us and which we would like to advance and develop together.

Jörg Schick, our managing director, opened our workshop with a meditation to get us in the right frame of mind for the day. The teams from Cologne and Leipzig were remotely connected and could thus be involved in all exercises and discussions.

Before dealing with the preceding questions about New Work, we turned our attention to our corporate values. Split into six teams, each group worked out the values that are most important to them, based on our existing value dialog, and which we want to live internally and convey externally to our customers. The results of the individual teams were then presented to the whole group.

Afterwards, a working group was formed to discuss the values in detail, to identify the commonalities between all the groups and to redefine our five core values for the company.

The subsequent group exercise focused on the respective strengths of each individual. In doing so, we were shown in a very appreciative way that each and every one of us makes his or her own individual contribution to positive New Work development through his or her character and strengths.

New Results

After strengthening ourselves, we started the second half of the day and dealt with the core questions we had asked ourselves at the beginning.

In a further group work we elaborated the points: New Work yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Yesterday” also referred to work in other companies, “today” to the status quo and “tomorrow” to development potentials.

Key findings were as follows:

New Work Yesterday

  • Stiff hierarchies
  • Work under instructions and targets set by managers
  • No autonomous way of working
  • Long and complex decision-making processes
  • Limited freedom to shape your own work

New Work Today

  • Positive communication culture
  • Mutual motivation and appreciation
  • Critical reflection of the teams on internal & external processes
  • Very good self-organization and personal responsibility in all teams
  • Willingness to further development (e.g. through strengths coaching and communication training)

New Work Tomorrow

  • Expanding and optimizing cross-team working
  • Broadening the view beyond the end of one’s nose
  • Continue to advance digitization and innovation
  • Integrate New Work practices into everyday life
  • Focus even more on strengths-based work

Conclusion:

Our corporate culture is already deeply rooted in New Work, and there are many aspects that we are already successfully implementing. Each individual is involved in making his or her own contribution to anchoring, strengthening and further developing New Work in our company.

New Work is not a task for us, but an attitude and an ongoing process that we at Eticor live and pass on to our customers with enthusiasm!
